Hakimi Defies FIFA Protocol Spanish Language Press Conference
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi had a heated exchange with a football governing body official. The player intervened to allow a journalist to ask his question in Spanish, thereby circumventing the strictly imposed language protocol.
The framework of the exchange had been set. At the beginning of the media meeting, a FIFA delegate had imposed the exclusive use of four languages: English, French, Arabic and Portuguese. The incident erupted when a Mexican reporter ignored this initial rule by asking his question in Spanish. Immediately challenged by the organization’s official, the journalist saw his intervention blocked.

But the player’s immediate reaction was not anticipated. Born in Spain, Achraf Hakimi firmly replied to the official, explaining that he understood this language perfectly and would simply provide his answer in English. Faced with the FIFA representative’s persistent refusal, the footballer took matters into his own hands. He directly asked the journalist to ask his question in Spanish, which he did, before the player answered him in English.
