Gulf States Reaffirm Support for Morocco’s Sahara Sovereignty at GCC Summit

Morocco has been praised for the neutrality it has shown in the Gulf crisis. The GCC countries, now reconciled after three years of discord, have expressed their firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
In the final declaration that crowned the work of the 41st GCC Summit held in Saudi Arabia, Morocco was celebrated as a strategic and reliable partner. These countries have also expressed in one voice their support for the measures taken by Morocco to restore the free movement of people and goods in the buffer zone of El Guerguerat. The Gulf state leaders also reject any action or practice that would affect commercial traffic in El Guerguerat, according to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
For its part, Morocco expressed, in a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its satisfaction "following the positive developments in the relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar and the signing of the Al-Ula declaration on the occasion of the 41st Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council". The Kingdom hopes that these developments constitute "the beginning of the establishment of mutual trust, as well as the overcoming of this crisis, in order to consolidate unity within the Gulf family".
It should be noted that the final declaration of the 41st GCC Summit stressed the need to preserve within the GCC the common values based on the Islamic faith, Arab culture, common destiny and objective uniting its peoples, notes the newspaper.
