Global Streaming Giants Target Illegal IPTV Services in Morocco

Will Moroccans say goodbye to IPTV? DAZN, an online sports broadcasting company, has joined a global coalition to fight illegal and unauthorized streaming operations around the world. This coalition is led by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), which brings together major players in the entertainment industry such as Amazon, Apple, NBC Universal, Netflix, Disney, Sony and Warner Bros.
Unauthorized streaming sources are often the only option for fans, especially in Morocco, who are looking to follow certain teams or matches subject to expensive broadcasting agreements. Technology and entertainment companies have also started to use sports as an incentive for their services, citing the NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube, MLS/MLB for Apple TV Plus or Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. They now have more reasons to take collective action against those offering free streams, explains The Verge.
In collaboration with DAZN and the Qatari state media group beIN Media Group, ACE is expanding its reach in the fight against sports piracy. Last year, ACE had shut down an operation based in Morocco that had set up unauthorized World Cup streams in Qatar.
ACE claims that piracy of sports broadcasts costs some $28 billion in annual revenue. "The task force will continue to pursue criminal operators who harm sports at all levels," said Ed McCarthy, DAZN’s chief operating officer, in a press release, stressing that many illegal operations collect credit card information and personal data from fans for criminal purposes.
