Global Leaders Urge Biden to Back Morocco’s Sahara Autonomy Plan

In a letter addressed to the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, 250 international personalities from 25 countries have welcomed the American decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The US President is also invited to support the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only way to end this long-standing conflict.
In a note addressed to US President Joe Biden, these international personalities indicated that the Moroccan autonomy initiative is the only solution to the artificial conflict in the Sahara. "Mr. President, we, former heads of government, former ministers, elected officials, members of Parliaments, have the honor to write to you to express our satisfaction with the sovereign decision of the United States of America to recognize the full sovereignty of Morocco over the entire territory of the Sahara," stated the signatories of this letter, reprinted in a tweet posted by the former Italian Foreign Minister and former ambassador to the United States and Israel, Giulio Terzi.
Among these signatories are the former Czech President, Vaclav Klaus, the former Guatemalan President, Jimmy Morales Cabrera, the former Bulgarian Prime Minister, Gueorgui Bliznachki, the former MINURSO member, Stephan Todorov Davidov, as well as several current deputies and senators. Autonomy is the only way to end the suffering of the population living in the Tindouf camps in Algeria, ensure reconciliation and achieve lasting peace and stability in a strategic region, they are convinced, stressing that they are certain that the United States, under the presidency of Joe Biden, will continue to advance the Sahara issue towards a judicious solution, by supporting the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative.
They all say they are pleased with the development that the Moroccan Sahara is experiencing thanks to the development model of the southern provinces put in place by King Mohammed VI in 2015 and endowed with $8 billion. They congratulate the United States for having joined 20 other countries that have decided to open consular representations in the Sahara, in the cities of Laâyoune and Dakhla, while praising the trilateral pact signed between Morocco, Israel and the United States, as a way to consolidate the prospects for peace in the Middle East.
