Casablanca Ranks Among World’s Most Expensive Cities for Expats, Mercer Report Shows

Casablanca is among the most expensive cities in the world for expatriate workers, according to Mercer’s 2024 ranking, published on Monday.
For the second consecutive year, Hong Kong and Singapore top the list of the most expensive cities for expatriate workers, mainly due to rising rents and "volatile inflation trends." "The cost of living challenges have had a significant impact on multinational organizations and their employees," said Yvonne Traber, Mercer’s global mobility leader, in a statement.
The Swiss cities of Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern follow, as well as New York, London, Nassau (Bahamas), Los Angeles and Copenhagen. As for Casablanca, it occupies the 153rd place out of 226 cities. In Africa, the capital of the Central African Republic, Bangui, ranks 14th, ahead of Dubai and Paris (29th). In the Pacific region, Sydney is ranked 58th. In Canada, Toronto is the most expensive city (92nd) and Mumbai, the most expensive in India (136th).
This ranking was based on the comparison of the prices of 200 goods and services, including housing, transportation, food, clothing and household items.
