Global Conflicts Reshape Moroccan Summer Travel Plans for 2025

The war in Gaza, in Ukraine, the tensions between Israel and Iran, regional tensions, threats of escalation of the conflict with the United States and geopolitical uncertainties are affecting the travel plans of Moroccans for the summer of 2025.

Some Moroccans are cancelling their travel plans for the summer of 2025, while others are still looking for destinations considered safer. Armed conflicts, regional tensions, geopolitical uncertainties are forcing the issue. "I had everything booked for a stay in Egypt in August, flights, hotel, excursions... everything is paid for. But with the tensions in the region, I’m seriously wondering if it wouldn’t be better to give up," says Hanane, a mother of two children. Caution is the order of the day for Moroccans wishing to travel this summer. "I wanted to go to Thailand, but given the global tensions, I tell myself that staying in Morocco this summer may be more reasonable," says Yassine, a young executive.

In a statement to Matin, Rachid Lazrak, a political scientist and expert in international relations, confirms that the ongoing upheavals are directly affecting travel habits. "The transformations the world is experiencing today are rapid and marked by growing uncertainty," he points out, citing high-risk areas. These areas are Gaza and southern Lebanon, Ukraine and Russia, but also several African countries, such as Sudan, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia. He also cites certain parts of Latin America, notably Mexico, Venezuela and Haiti, which are recording very high levels of violence and organized crime.

"These regions are currently classified among the destinations formally discouraged, including for Moroccan tourists," the expert warns. Morocco then appears as the safe country for its travelers given its unique position in the Arab world. "The Kingdom stands out as one of the few countries to have managed to preserve its political and security stability, despite a troubled regional environment," explains the expert. Morocco has modern tourist infrastructure and a high level of security. Thus, the kingdom represents a safe and attractive destination today, both for foreigners and for nationals in search of a serene summer, without constraints related to geopolitical tensions.
