Gibraltar Police Force Welcomes First Moroccan-Born Officer, Boosting Diversity

Mojib Benhakim is the first officer of Moroccan origin to join the ranks of the Royal Gibraltar Police.
Born in Tetouan, Mojib arrived in Gibraltar at the age of 13. "When I arrived, I only spoke Arabic and French, so my three years of school did not go well and I enrolled in a training center. But I knew I had not yet reached my full potential and my desire to find a job where I could help others," explains the Moroccan police officer on the website of the Royal Gibraltar Police.
He was considering pursuing his studies at university, but ended up answering the call of the RGP, which was recruiting. "I felt I could make a difference, so I applied to join the RGP," he specifies, adding that he joined the police at the same time as Abdel Rahmouni, another Moroccan who was born and raised in Gibraltar. "Our integration into the police has been a great inspiration for all the other members of the Moroccan community. There was a real sense of inclusion," says Mojib.
"I can honestly say that within the RGP, I have not experienced any xenophobic or anti-Muslim acts. In town, I have been attacked from time to time, but I feel very respected in the performance of my work," affirms Mojib.
