Germany Names New Ambassador to Morocco, Signaling Diplomatic Thaw

Robert Dölger, former commissioner for sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel, is the new German ambassador to Morocco, a few weeks after the warming of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The appointment of Robert Dölger as German ambassador to Morocco officially puts an end to the diplomatic crisis that has shaken Berlin and Rabat for several months. According to the German media, the new ambassador was appointed on the proposal of Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who also revealed to the press that King Mohammed VI is in favor of this appointment, reports Maroc Diplomatique.
"In a next step, the Federal President will officially appoint Mr. Dölger as German ambassador to Morocco and sign the corresponding letter of credence. Robert Dölger will then take up his official duties in Rabat," she said.
Robert Dölger is not entering unknown territory. He knows the region from having worked there for many years. He previously held the position of first secretary of the permanent mission to NATO.
The appointment of the new ambassador in Rabat follows the virtual meeting held in February between the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.
