German Ambassador Urges Morocco-Algeria Reconciliation for Stronger Maghreb Union

The German Ambassador to Rabat called on Morocco and Algeria to work towards building a strong Maghreb Union, based on the common points that bind the countries of the region.
In a statement to the Hespress website, the diplomat aspires to a Maghreb Union that "draws inspiration from the experience of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which not only unified the Federal Republic of Germany but the whole of Europe".
The Ambassador specified, during a press conference organized in Rabat, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, that the events of this city contributed to the strengthening of ties between European countries and the building of a united and strong Europe.
According to the German diplomat, "nothing justifies the perpetuity of the conflict between the Moroccan and Algerian brothers, knowing that what unites them is more important than what separates them".
He added that "the events in Berlin 30 years ago are like two peas in a pod with those in the Maghreb region today", calling to "strengthen the ties in this beautiful region and to harness the cross-border social and economic energies".
