German Activist Expelled from Morocco Over Unauthorized Holocaust Memorial Project

The Royal Gendarmerie Brigade of Ait Ourir has summoned the German, Oliver Bienkowski, the initiator of the project to build a Holocaust memorial in the Marrakech-Al Haouz region, to leave the Kingdom within 72 hours.
The initiator of the Holocaust Memorial project will have to leave Morocco within 72 hours. This is a decision that comes from the Royal Gendarmerie Brigade of Ait Ourir. The information was confirmed by the person concerned on social networks, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
This expulsion follows the construction work of a Holocaust Memorial in the commune of Aït Faska (province of Al Haouz) without having been previously authorized.
This attitude has provoked a reaction from the local authorities who ordered the demolition of the infrastructure. However, the initiator of the project deplored this situation and at the same time requested compensation from the Moroccan state for the losses he estimated at around 100,000 euros.
According to the same source, this situation has quickly presented Morocco as an anti-Semitic country. In a statement, Jacky Kadoch, President of the Jewish community in the Marrakech-Safi region, hinted that the Jewish community in the Al Houz region welcomed the decision of the competent Moroccan authorities to demolish the constructions, and the one concerning the expulsion of the initiator of the project. "Morocco has always been a country of tolerance, hospitality and respect for the law, welcoming all creative initiatives," he said.
