Royal gendarmerie agents in Taounate, near Fez, saved a suspected thief from mob violence on Tuesday. Users of the Tlat Beni Oulid souk (weekly market) were about to lynch him.
The suspected thief was caught in the act of theft by the population. Had it not been for the intervention of the royal gendarmerie agents of the commune of Beni Oulid, he would have been lynched by the regulars of the souk, reports Al Yaoum 24.
The person implicated, who would not be from the region, is said to have taken advantage of the crowding in the livestock market to steal from users.
