Gad Elmaleh’s New Film Explores Religious Conversion and Family Conflict

Thirteen years after directing his film Coco, Moroccan comedian Gad Elmaleh is back on the cinema scene with a new film titled "Reste un peu" which will be released in theaters on November 16, 2022.
Unlike Coco, Gad Elmaleh shares the poster of this new film with his family. It is the story of a man (Gad Elmaleh), a Jew living in the United States for three years, who decides to return to France without daring to admit to his family that he is doing it to convert to Catholicism. His parents (David and Régine) will learn of their son’s project with disappointment. Gad has decided to convert to Catholicism out of love for the Virgin Mary. This is followed by a battle of Gad’s parents, determined to preserve their son’s faith.
Just like Coco, Gad Elmaleh plays the lead role in "Reste un peu". But this time, it’s a family film with Judith Elmaleh, director and screenwriter. We also find the comedian’s parents who play a prominent role in the story told by the film. The film’s music, selected at the last Angoulême Francophone Film Festival in the "Les Évènements" section, is a signature by Ibrahim Maalouf.
