From pizza delivery in Spain to real estate mogul in Morocco

This is the story of a meteoric success that illustrates the new "Moroccan dream". Paco "Tanjewi", a former pizza delivery driver fleeing the crisis and political climate in Spain, has become a heavyweight in the real estate industry in Tangier. For him, the conclusion is clear: while Spain is saturated, Morocco is the new land of opportunities.

He doesn’t mince his words. Paco (a pseudonym adopted for his host country) sees Spain as a market where "everything is done" and where the cost of living is skyrocketing. In contrast, he describes Morocco as an El Dorado for those who have the courage to undertake: "Here, everything remains to be done".

His atypical career path has taken him from the handlebars of his scooter to the construction sites of Tangier. While he has some political reservations about the neighborhood, he brushes aside racism with a wave of his hand: "It’s absurd, we have more in common with Moroccans than with an Englishman".

Tangier, the Barcelona of the 90s?

For this savvy investor, Tangier is currently experiencing what Barcelona went through in the late 80s: an economic and urban explosion. Industry, tourism and the strategic position of the city are attracting more and more Spaniards who are crossing the strait to set up businesses or invest in real estate.

The appeal is threefold: square meter prices well below those in Europe, high rental yields and legal security that reassures. Paco points to a major difference with Spain: the absence of the "occupation" phenomenon (squatting - Okupas). In Morocco, the violation of domicile is severely punished, a strong argument for foreign owners traumatized by Spanish laws.

"Don’t come to do everything"

But beware, the El Dorado is not offered without effort. The entrepreneur warns his compatriots: the beginnings are rough (bureaucracy, cultural adaptation). His key advice? Arrive with specific expertise. The Moroccan market is in high demand for skilled professions: carpentry, digital marketing, plastering or renovation. For those with know-how, northern Morocco is a boulevard open to success.
