FRMF : the diagnosis is in for Azzedine Ounahi

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) provided the definitive diagnosis regarding Azzedine Ounahi on Monday. While the competition ends there for the midfielder, who is a victim of a muscle injury, it has been decided that he will remain with the team for the rest of the tournament.

The medical examinations have confirmed the technical staff’s fears. Azzedine Ounahi is suffering from a "muscle injury in the calf area". The player is receiving "appropriate medical care", the federal body said on its website on Monday.

This medical report validates Walid Regragui’s statements. On Sunday, in the post-match press conference, the national coach had announced that his player would be unavailable for the rest of the competition, predicting an absence estimated between "five and six weeks".

Although the player is now "officially declared injured", he will not leave the gathering. The federation specified that "despite this injury, Ounahi will remain with the group and continue to accompany his teammates during the rest of the competition". A decision made to maintain a "spirit of solidarity and cohesion" within the squad in this decisive phase.

Recovery and adaptation

On the field, the page of qualification is turned. The Atlas Lions resumed training on Monday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, the day after their victory against Tanzania (1-0).

According to the FRMF, this resumption session "went well". It mainly allowed the technical staff "to adapt the work program according to the physical condition of the players", a necessity after the intensity of the round of 16 match played the day before.
