French Tourist Stabbed in Morocco Faces Repatriation Challenges Amid Lockdown

While she was taking a morning walk around a motorhome parking area in Taroudant, a French tourist was attacked with a knife by a man who is said to have psychiatric problems. Since then, the medical repatriation of this sexagenarian from Neuville-de-Poitou has proven complicated due to the lockdown.

According to witnesses on the spot, the sexagenarian had received 7 kitchen knife blows, notably to the throat, on Monday, May 4. It took the intervention of three men to save her from the clutches of her aggressor. Seriously injured, she had been admitted to a local hospital and operated on for nearly 6 hours. While it was over 45 degrees in Taroudant, the hospital doctors had the Poitevine discharged on Friday, May 8, fearing the risk of infection, reports Franceinfo.

Awaiting medical repatriation, an embassy collaborator is taking care of her. A difficult repatriation. The attempts of her daughter, Anne-Sophie, have been in vain. "We are asking for repatriation and nothing else, lockdown or not. This is still a serious act and not a minor accident, our request should not be a battle, she fumes with anger. Note that the local press has minimized the facts by talking about minor injuries; yet, her vital prognosis was indeed engaged during her initial care, according to the local doctor. Today, we are very concerned about her health."

At the announcement of the arrival of a plane on Saturday, May 9, for Monday, May 11, 2020, the victim’s daughter hoped to finally repatriate her mother, who had gone on vacation with her companion in January. Shattered hope. On Sunday, May 10, she learns that the Moroccan authorities have not given the green light for this medical evacuation.

"I had her medical file. We fear a superinfection. We still have no news of a scan," regrets Anne-Sophie. Her voice is very weakened by the injury. I see her in video from Morocco. She is housed, alone, in an embassy riad. Her companion is with her as much as possible to care for her, feed her, and take care of her."
