French Tourist Injured in Monkey Attack at Moroccan Cedar Forest

In Azrou, an old monkey from the cedar forest attacked a French tourist who was trying to play with one of the Barbary macaque monkeys. She will be admitted to the emergency room in Azrou to receive an anti-rabies vaccine, then transported to the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez to receive the necessary care.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Azrou. While trying to play with one of the Barbary macaque monkeys, locally known as "Zaattout monkeys", the French tourist was surprised by the attack of other monkeys, reports Al3omk. She suffered deep wounds to her hand.
Informed, the local authorities and the water and forestry services arrived on the scene. The tourist was taken to the local hospital in Azrou to receive an injection of the rabies vaccine. She was then transported to the Hassan II University Hospital to receive the necessary care.
The situation now requires the installation of a fence around the forest to protect tourists from monkey attacks and their incursion into the main streets of the region, in order to avoid endangering citizens and visitors, says an associative actor, stressing that the diversity of foods offered to monkeys causes serious illnesses in them, including rabies.
Some monkey attacks are due to their fear that their young will be stolen and sold illegally, a food seller in the forest had previously stated to the same site, also stating that the forest has already been the scene of many cases of theft of young monkeys, used later in folk shows.
