A French tourist disappears at Jamaâ El-Fna and reappears two days later in Guéliz
A French tourist with a mental disability was found in Marrakech two days after disappearing at Jamaâ El-Fna. The 45-year-old man, discovered in the Guéliz district, was taken to hospital.
The Frenchman had arrived in Marrakech with a group that included several people with mental disabilities. The tourist stay was supposed to last ten days, but the man disappeared on the first day of the trip.
His father told Al3omk that he had gone missing on Sunday, September 20, at around 9 p.m., while the group was on Jamaâ El-Fna square. As the man spoke very little, his family feared that he would be unable to ask for help or communicate sufficiently to be identified.
Found after two days of searching
Searches were launched by the group’s supervisors and security services. The tourist’s father also went to Marrakech with his other son to take part in the search.
The Frenchman was eventually found on Tuesday in the Guéliz district. He is believed to have wandered around the city before being spotted by someone who helped locate his family. He was then taken to hospital. No details were provided about his state of health.
The father thanked the Moroccans who shared the call for witnesses or took part in the search. He also indicated that the family intended to examine with the organization responsible for the trip the circumstances in which his son had managed to escape the vigilance of his supervisors, without making any specific accusation at this stage.
