French School in Morocco Fires Teacher Over LGBTQ Content in Class

The presentation of information on homosexuality and "abnormal tendencies and the dissemination of insulting ideas about the personalities and symbols of Islam" in class led to the dismissal of a teacher from the Honoré de Balzac school in Kénitra.

The Honoré de Balzac school in Kénitra, which is part of the French educational institutions abroad, dismissed the teacher accused of having presented information about homosexuality to her students. "[...] I inform the public opinion, the press and the written and electronic media, that the school administration has informed the families of the students of its decision to dismiss the teacher concerned from the school and to terminate her duties, after the school authorities Balzac were convinced of the seriousness of the matter and its dangers, both for the students and for the reputation of the school itself, which must always remain a space of security, tolerance and livability," says Abderrahim Jamai, the parents’ lawyer, in a statement.

Following the outbreak of this affair, the public prosecutor’s office near the court of first instance of Kénitra is conducting a judicial investigation, the results of which are awaited. "The responsibility to protect children against all abuse and exploitation remains dependent on raising public awareness, the commitment of the authorities and institutions at all levels, foremost among them the schools and educational institutions and the pioneering roles they play, as well as the tasks entrusted to the press and the media, framed by professional conscience and the ethics of a noble and respectable profession," Abderrahim Jamai specified.
