French retirees: things are getting more complicated in Morocco

In a written question addressed to the French Minister of Labour, Health, Solidarity and Families concerning the procedures for issuing the certificates of life required from retirees residing in Morocco and covered by the French system, lawmaker Karim Ben Cheikh highlights the complications caused by a procedure he considers both incomplete and poorly harmonized. He points out that, although those concerned fulfill their reporting obligation every year by sending a certificate of life to their pension insurance institution, many of them are asked to appear in person at the offices of the Moroccan Pension Fund (CMR), summoned for supposedly random checks, without any apparent explanation.

According to the elected representative of the 9ᵉ constituency of French citizens living abroad, these requests are problematic because the local offices of the CMR are few in number and sometimes difficult for elderly policyholders or those living in outlying areas to access. By comparison, he notes that the agencies of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), the Moroccan counterpart of the French funds, have a far more extensive presence throughout the country.

Karim Ben Cheikh is calling for clarification of the procedures for processing pension liquidation files for policyholders living in Morocco. He also deplores persistent opacity and practices liable to hinder the exercise of their rights.
