French Rapper Mister You Fined $10,000, Avoids Jail in Driver’s License Fraud Case

Retried for buying a driver’s license, the rapper Mister You narrowly escaped prison. The Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) criminal court had sentenced him to six months in prison and a 5,000 euro fine.
Bis repetita. In March, Younès Latifi had been sentenced to 24 months in prison after promoting a drug trafficking network in the 94. A sentence that will be arranged just in time. He has once again managed to get out of trouble. After a conviction at first instance for attempted obtaining of an administrative document, his lawyer had appealed. The judges have just made a decision in his favor. They found him guilty of the offense, but fined him 10,000 euros, reports Le Parisien. He escapes prison again.
Robin Binsard, the rapper’s lawyer, is delighted with this decision: "Rather than falling into the all-prison approach, the court chose to rule out the possibility of prison. This honors the judicial institution." According to him, his client’s "place is not in prison but in concert halls and at the top of the rap charts".
The fake driver’s license affair had broken out in 2017. In addition to Mister You, the former director of a driving school in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine) and a civil servant from the prefecture were involved in this case. The latter, in exchange for a cash payment of 4,000 euros, validated the files in the computer system and worked to ensure that the buyer obtained his license. According to the final report of the justice system, about sixty falsified licenses had been issued in this way. The civil servant had been sentenced to 3 years in prison, including 2 suspended, while the driving school director had received a sentence of 4 years, including 2 suspended.
