French Muslim Leaders Call for Rain Prayers Amid Severe Drought

Fires, water shortages, France like Morocco is experiencing one of the worst droughts in its history. In addition to the drastic measures being taken to deal with the situation, calls have been made for prayers to be said in mosques in all regions for rain.
It is the president of the Regional Council of the Muslim Cult (CRCM) Rhône-Alpes, Benaissa Chana, who launched, on Friday, August 12, an appeal to the mosques "to devote a moment of prayer, in particular, at the time of the Friday services, for rain, for the good of agriculture and living beings who need water, throughout the world, to survive," reports Saphirnews.
The CRCM Rhône-Alpes is thus following in the footsteps of the Union of Mosques of France (UMF) which had launched the same appeal at the beginning of the month. "Water is vital for life, it is essential for our planet, both for human beings and for other living species and creatures," recalls Benaissa Chana. "God being capable of making anything possible, by His mercy, we can ask Him to grant us this need, as the Prophet of Islam, peace and blessings be upon him, has taught us," he adds.
He insists on the need to also pray for those fighting the fires, sometimes at the risk of their lives. "Also, we must pray with more faith and with the presence of the heart to be heard more quickly, for these firefighters who are suffering in the face of these fires that are ravaging our forests so that God may give them courage and strength to put an end to these tragedies."
