French Muslim Council Criticizes Deputy Meyer Habib’s Pro-Israel Stance

Meyer Habib, the (LR) deputy from the 8th constituency of French citizens abroad, which includes Israel, is among the political figures who have defended all the actions of the Israeli government since the outbreak of the war between the Hebrew state and the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas. A position that the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) condemns.
The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) is unhappy with the position taken by deputy Meyer Habib, known to be very close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Franco-Israeli elected official is accused of having stated, during the hearing of the former French ambassador to Israel, Gérard Araud, by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, that "a Jew will never be a settler in Judea" and of having criticized the diplomat, reports SaphirNews. According to the latter, an "ethnic cleansing" is underway in the West Bank, where the violence of the past few weeks by settlers and the Israeli army has left more than 200 Palestinians dead.
"How can a French deputy take up a position in violation of international law, contrary to France’s constant position? How can we let a deputy of the Nation who imports the Israeli-Palestinian conflict onto our soil go unpunished by taking such extremist, illegal and dangerous positions?" questions the CFCM, stressing that "those who advocate terrorism or war crimes against unarmed Israeli civilians must be denounced and condemned." "The same must be true for those who advocate terrorism and war crimes against unarmed Palestinian civilians," added the Muslim organization.
It also denounced the "ethnic cleansing" in the West Bank where "no one can invoke here the ’right of Israel to defend itself’ against Hamas attacks". The CFCM is concerned about the positions of these French public figures "who are shamelessly trying to justify the unjustifiable" like Meyer Habib, who "has been repeating the rhetoric of extremist settlers for too long." And to continue: "Our human conscience must lead us, whatever our beliefs and convictions, to oppose all the atrocities that are being committed before our eyes."
