French Mosques Face Bank Account Closures, Sparking Community Outcry

The Council of Mosques of the Rhône (CMR) reacted on Sunday to the closure of bank accounts of several mosques in the department, which would apparently be targeted by the authorities.
In a statement, the CMR protested against these "abusive and unfair practices" towards the Muslim community, while some mosques are "under construction or expansion".
In addition, several mosques find themselves unable to carry out their action "in absolute respect of the laws and with a concern for transparency" while their accounts are suspended without conviction, the note specifies, stressing "the inalienable right to have a bank account for any French citizen".
"The State must take the necessary measures to prohibit these unjustified closures and restore the inalienable right to have a bank account for any French citizen," the CMR said.
