A new French law threatens thousands of jobs in Morocco
A new French law aimed at regulating telemarketing is about to have major economic repercussions. This measure, which will come into effect in 2026, is seen as a direct threat to a key employment sector in Morocco, which is highly dependent on the French market.
The French Ministry of the Economy has announced the ban on all unauthorized prospecting calls as of August 11, 2026. After this date, companies will only be able to contact a consumer if they have given their "explicit consent" or if the call concerns an existing contract. Offenders will be subject to severe penalties, including fines of up to 500,000 euros and prison sentences of up to five years, particularly in the case of canvassing targeting vulnerable audiences.
Moroccan call centers heavily impacted
This measure is described as a "severe blow" for Morocco, where call centers are a pillar of private employment. The sector is structurally dependent on France, as nearly 80% of its activities are oriented towards the French market. The ban on marketing calls without consent is likely to lead to a significant decline in activity.
The National Federation of Offshore Workers and Professionals has already sounded the alarm. Its secretary general described the law as a "direct threat to hundreds of jobs in Morocco". He specified that this impact is added to that of the rise of artificial intelligence and that, already, "large companies have started layoffs".
