French Interior Minister Visits Morocco to Bolster Security and Migration Ties

The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, is expected this weekend in Morocco for an official working visit. This trip comes as Paris and Rabat display their shared desire to strengthen their ties. Meetings with high-ranking Moroccan officials are on the agenda, focusing on several topics of bilateral cooperation.
At the heart of this visit, Mr. Retailleau is expected to meet with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laftit. The discussions between the two ministers should address migration issues as well as security cooperation, a key area including joint efforts to combat terrorism. The discussion will more broadly cover the state of relations between the two countries.
A specific point will also be on the agenda: to review the "strengthening of progress" made in the bilateral relationship, and to emphasize "particularly regarding consular laissez-passer." This technical aspect, related to the management of migration flows, will therefore be addressed during the discussions.
This working visit takes place in a context where France and Morocco say they are determined to continue improving their cooperation at all levels, a sign of a shared desire to consolidate a strategic partnership.
