French Influencer Poupette Kenza Plans Dubai Move Amid Social Media Controversy

In France, Kenza Benchrif, known as Poupette Kenza, 23, has experienced phases of glory and downfall that have undermined her popularity. Exasperated, the Rouennaise plans to settle in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in September.

In a few years, Poupette Kenza has built a solid reputation on social networks, especially on Snapchat. The adventure begins in 2019. She had just met Allan, her future husband. On the web, she shares her first trips with her boyfriend with her subscribers. After the birth of her daughter Seyana, on June 5, 2020, her popularity skyrocketed: 72 in 2020, 171 in 2021, 245 in 2022... Now an influencer, she joins an agency. She makes a lot of money through her product placements. "Everyone wanted to work with her, boasts one of her first agents to Le Parisien. She had to refuse almost everything." Jeremstar, a YouTuber specializing in influence, testifies: "People in the industry and brands told me she was doing great. She was one of the best."

On May 6, she becomes a mother for the second time. She gives birth to a boy, Khalis. Since then, her popularity has continued to grow. She posts an average of 20 videos per hour, in which she shares her daily life, her disputes with her husband and the antics of her two children. "Poupette Kenza has an addiction to Snapchat, analyzes an observer. She manages it like a drug addict, to the detriment of her husband and children." She takes advantage of her celebrity to open a tanning salon in the heart of Rouen in the spring of 2022. "She’s a nice woman. She even calls me ’my dear’, not all bosses are like that!" slips the receptionist of this shop with a nondescript facade. The employees "don’t see her often" but "she comes as soon as we lack something," they assure.

But Poupette Kenza’s life is not a long quiet river. The young woman is a victim of harassment. One of her videos sends her into custody because she filmed herself palpating, for long seconds, the softened skull of her infant. Following reports from Internet users to the social services, the Rouen prosecutor’s office opened an investigation. The influencer was placed in custody for "removal by the parent of a minor child without legitimate reason compromising his health, safety, morality or education". She will be released before being placed in custody again. In May, Sarah Tanzilli and Bruno Studer, two Renaissance deputies, filed a complaint against her, denouncing "a situation resembling child pornography and endangering others".

"The role of a parent is to protect a child, his privacy and his image. Poupette Kenza embodies drifts that seem condemnable to us," says Bruno Studer. This complaint followed the dissemination by the rapper Booba of a video in which Seyana, 2 years old, "sings erotic lyrics with her mother". The setbacks are multiplying for the Rouennaise. On January 18, 2023, after multiple reports from Internet users, Snapchat deleted her account. A situation she is taking very badly: "Nothing will ever be the same again." She is turning to TikTok and she has gathered more than 500,000 subscribers in a few hours, a record. Kenza regains her punch. Later, she decides to continue her adventure 7,000 km from France. She plans to settle in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with her family, next month.
