French Customs Seize 325 kg of Cannabis, Two Moroccan Drivers Sentenced to 5 Years

The customs officers of the Narbonne brigade in France seized 325 kilos of cannabis resin hidden in a refrigerated truck registered in Morocco on the night of May 13 on the A9 in the Aude. The two occupants, of Moroccan origin, arrested, were sentenced to five years in prison.
The drug, hidden in suitcases and large bags in the truck coming from Algeciras in Spain and destined for Château-Renard, near Orléans, according to the two Moroccan drivers on board, was discovered during the roadside checks carried out by the customs officers on this motorway, reports France 3.

The Béziers judicial court sentenced the two drivers to 5 years in prison. They also receive a 10-year ban on entering French territory and a joint customs fine of 650,160 euros. The seized drugs, as well as the truck, remain under judicial confiscation, the court decided.

Recently, the customs officers of Le Perthus had also seized 125 kg of cannabis herb in Le Boulou. The drug was hidden in electrical cables destined for the Netherlands. The truck driver was sentenced on Monday to 2 years in prison, 5 years of ban on accessing French territory and a customs fine of 301,000 euros.
In total, the customs officers of the Perpignan regional directorate have already seized more than 2 tons of cannabis, both herb and resin, since the beginning of this year.
