French Coach Patrice Beaumelle Addresses Rumors of Islamic Conversion

Patrice Beaumelle, 46, the current French coach of MC Alger, and former assistant to Hervé Renard in Morocco, reacted to his conversion to Islam announced by several media.

"I think no one has to give this information but me. It’s a lack of respect to publish such information. I don’t appreciate it. If there is someone who can give this information, it’s me and no one else," Patrice Beaumelle lashed out in an audio message broadcast by the newspaper Ennahar TV and quoted by TSA. For its part, the management of MC Alger has opened an investigation after the dissemination of the information relating to the conversion of its coach, reports El Khabar, specifying moreover that the French technician converted to Islam three months ago, but he did not want to make his conversion public for personal reasons. The question of religion is part of individual freedoms, believes the former assistant of Hervé Renard in Morocco.

The coach of Mouloudia d’Alger is following in the footsteps of his compatriot and late François Bracci, believes Shoot Africa. The latter had converted to Islam, settled in Algeria and then married an Algerian woman. He lived in Algeria until his death on December 28 at the age of 72. He had joined the Algerian club with whom he won the Algerian Cup in 2006 and the championship title in 2010. Just like the former Olympique de Marseille defender, Patrice Beaumelle would be preparing to marry an Algerian woman.
