Franco-Moroccan Politician Wins Landslide Victory in Trappes Mayoral By-Election

Ali Rabeh, a French citizen of Moroccan origin, was re-elected mayor of Trappes in the first round of a by-election organized after the cancellation of the 2020 election.
With 58.36% of the votes, Ali Rabeh, close to Benoît Hamon’s Génération.s movement, was re-elected mayor of Trappes against Othman Nasrou, a French citizen of Moroccan origin close to Valérie Pécresse (Libres!), and who was the head of an unusual alliance formed with the former Socialist (PS) mayor Guy Malandrin, reports Le Point. His opponent is credited with 34.89% of the votes, according to the final results communicated by the prefecture of Yvelines. "Tonight, the people of Trappes have chosen to re-elect Ali Rabeh," acknowledged Othman Nasrou.
On Twitter, Ali Rabeh thanked the people of Trappes. "Re-elected in the 1st round, with at least 57% of the votes! A by-election with a turnout up 6 points compared to 2020, against a Zemmour-ized and clientelist right. What a pride, thank you to the people of Trappes!" he wrote.
The justice system had canceled Ali Rabeh’s election as mayor of Trappes in 2020 by a margin of 161 votes because it accused him of distributing, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, 15,000 masks accompanied for some by his photo. An action that had not been declared in the candidate’s campaign accounts.
