Franco-Algerian Drug Lord Sentenced to 7 Years in Moroccan Prison

The Rabat Court of Appeal has just sentenced Sofiane Hambli, a dangerous criminal and drug baron, to 7 years in prison. The Franco-Algerian had been sentenced in June last year by the same court to 24 years in prison for "forming an organized criminal gang".
The defendant was prosecuted for forming an organized criminal gang, international drug trafficking, kidnapping, sequestration, torture and ransom demand. Other drug barons as well as civil servants and police officers involved in this case appeared at his trial, which was held on Tuesday, reports the daily Al Akhbar, specifying that this decision confirms a judgment of the court of first instance of Salé.
The criminal had been brought before the competent public prosecutor’s office of the Rabat Court of Appeal in November 2021. He was accused of having planned and committed serious crimes and was actively sought by the French and Moroccan authorities. The Moroccan authorities informed the public of his arrest on October 23, 2021 for his alleged involvement in international drug trafficking.
In a statement, the DGSN had announced the opening of an investigation by the security services of Tangier, after the suspect, seriously injured by a knife following an altercation with other drug barons, was admitted to a private clinic under a false German identity. His true identity was finally discovered by the investigators of the BNPJ.
