France Suspends Visa Cancellation for Moroccan Woman After Husband Reconciles With Her

Three days. That is how long a young Moroccan woman kept her long-stay visa before French authorities decided to cancel it. Issued so she could join her French husband, the document had been valid since March 9, 2026. On March 12, it was cancelled after her husband contacted consular services to report alleged adultery.

The couple had married in Morocco in August 2025. She was 21, and he was 37. Her husband, who lives in France, regularly visited her in the kingdom. But an argument upended their plans. According to the young woman’s account to the court, her husband reported a suspected infidelity to the consular authorities and said he no longer wanted her to join him.

Things took a different turn, however. The couple reconciled, and the Moroccan woman arrived in France in April 2026. They resumed living together and are expecting their first child. Their family situation had changed, but the visa cancellation continued to have effect.

The young woman therefore found herself in an irregular situation. She says she has been deprived of the right to work and of social security coverage, even though she needs medical care during her pregnancy.

Asked to rule on the matter urgently, the Nantes administrative court had to weigh the arguments. The Interior Ministry disputed the need for urgent intervention. It also argued that the documents submitted did not sufficiently demonstrate that the couple’s relationship was continuing.

The judge took a different view of the case. The Moroccan woman established that she was still married, lived with her husband and was pregnant. The loss of her right to stay therefore seriously and immediately affected her situation enough to justify urgent intervention.

The judge highlighted two main problems with the administrative decision: the identity and authority of the person who issued it, and the inadequate reasoning behind it. These possible irregularities cast serious doubt on its legality, according to the ruling issued on October 1, 2026.

The court therefore suspended the visa cancellation. The visa was initially valid until March 8, 2027. It ordered the Interior Ministry to review the young woman’s situation within one month. Her request for reimbursement of legal costs was also partially granted.

The state must pay her 800 euros. Her separate appeal seeking the definitive cancellation of the administrative decision remains to be heard.
