France Revokes Nationality: Moroccan Needs Visa for Family Visits

Born in Bourges in 1986, the man in question had acquired French nationality in 2001. In 2015, he was found guilty of participation in a criminal association aimed at preparing a terrorist act in the Forsane Alizza case. He was sentenced to eighteen months in prison with a suspended sentence.

A decree issued on April 29, 2026 pronounced his loss of French nationality. The man, who also holds Moroccan nationality, asked the Council of State to suspend this decision pending examination of his appeal.

His family can visit him in Morocco

To demonstrate urgency, he explained that the measure prevented him from easily visiting his parents, brother and sisters living in France. He also cited the consequences for his professional activity, which requires travel to France and other European countries.

The emergency judge rejected these arguments. According to him, the man in question can request a visa to travel to France and his relatives can, for their part, visit him in Morocco. He may also request visas for his professional travel.

The Council of State also notes that the man chose to leave France in July 2025 to settle in Morocco with his wife and their two French daughters. He had accepted a job offering more advantageous conditions than those he previously enjoyed in France.

The suspension request was therefore rejected due to lack of urgency. This decision does not, however, yet settle the legality of the loss of nationality: the substantive appeal remains to be examined.
