France Denies Visas to Moroccan Ophthalmologists for International Congress

These are several Moroccan ophthalmologists who were to attend the annual international ophthalmology congress organized by the French Society of Ophthalmology.

Outraged, the Moroccan Society of Ophthalmology (SMO) informed its French counterpart in order to express the astonishment of the Moroccan doctors in the face of the severe measures taken against them by the French authorities.

"This refusal is all the more incomprehensible as it affects colleagues who have been established for years in the private sector, interns, senior registrars, university professors and heads of university hospital departments. Many of them have paid their subscription or submitted scientific papers," wrote Dr. Mohamed Bennani, president of the SMO.

And to add: "We know full well that the French Society of Ophthalmology is powerless in the face of this problem, but we have wanted to inform you in the hope that the information will reach the competent authorities."
