France: towards a recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara?

The French ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, stated that it is impossible to build a solid future between the two countries without clarifying the French position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
During a conference-debate in Casablanca, Lecourtier described as "totally illusory, disrespectful and stupid" to think that the two nations could move forward without addressing this crucial issue, insisting that France recognizes the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco, and that its status is essential for the Kingdom "yesterday, today and tomorrow."
The ambassador stated that France is aware of the evolution of the world and that the Sahara issue will be discussed within the framework of the ongoing dialogue between the two countries, highlighting the importance of continuing the partnership between France and Morocco in the years to come.
The conference-debate, moderated by Lecourtier, took place at the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of Ain Chock. It was organized by the Links Foundation, chaired by the former Moroccan minister and ambassador to France, Mohamed Berrada.
