According to Le Parisien, a confidential note from the Territorial Intelligence services mentions an increased risk of public disorder due to the knockout nature of the match and the stakes of a semi-final qualification.
Authorities fear gatherings in public spaces, with possible use of pyrotechnic devices. The scenario deemed most sensitive would be a Morocco victory, due to the symbolic significance of a Moroccan qualification.
Beauvau strengthens vigilance
The note recalls that previous matches did not cause major disturbances on a national scale, but cites several incidents following France and Morocco’s qualifications, notably in Lille, Maubeuge, Châteauroux, Metz, Nancy, Thonon-les-Bains and Annemasse. Twelve police officers were reportedly slightly injured.
French services are also monitoring social media, where calls for chaos are circulating, as well as rumors aimed at tarnishing the image of Moroccan supporters. Some posts notably mention the risk of provocations attributed to people impersonating them.
At the Interior Ministry, a reinforced posture is planned for the night of the match. Prefects have been called upon to prevent excesses, particularly around alcohol, occupation of traffic routes and the use of mortars or firecrackers.
