France Launches Second Phase of National Anti-Radicalization Plan

The French state has focused on the second phase of the National Plan for the Prevention of Radicalization, launched in 2018, which aims to prevent the expansion of this phenomenon through corrective actions.
In 2018, about sixty preventive measures were announced by the French government, as part of the National Plan, through the active participation of social actors (schools, universities, businesses, public services), in order to act against the phenomenon of radicalization.
According to the conclusions of the Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Delinquency and Radicalization, which met last week in Strasbourg, with a view to moving on to Phase II of the National Plan, action must be taken "where it is most difficult, that is to say in prison", stressing that "the care of detainees for terrorism and those of common law radicalized is a priority".
The official figures speak of 500 detainees for acts of terrorism and 1,100 others for acts of radicalism.
In addition, delinquency remains a priority in the prevention strategy implemented during Phase II by the French government. Thus, actions to strengthen social ties have been planned, through the integration of social workers and street educators.
According to French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, "the fight against radicalization and delinquency must be part of the same public policies", specifying that to "date, 700 families are being supported, 2,500 people are being taken care of (including 55 minors and 40% women)."
