France Halts Extradition of Moroccan Domestic Violence Survivor, Grants Refugee Protection

While she was about to be extradited, a Moroccan woman, victim of domestic violence by her husband and a refugee in France, has been allowed to stay. The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) granted her subsidiary protection, preventing her return to Morocco.
Zakia, 50, mother of two daughters, 17 and 14, a refugee in Vaucluse, has obtained, in addition to subsidiary protection, a two-year residence permit. This document now prevents her extradition, reports France bleu.
To get there, it took the commitment and determination of her lawyer and the Rheso and Solidarité femme associations. In this regard, the government was contacted and a letter was addressed to Marlène Schiappa.
According to Me Véronique Marcel, these supports have certainly pleaded in favor of Zakia. Her country had requested her extradition for forgery.
