France bans controversial Muslim girlhood book from sale to minors

This decision follows a report by the commission responsible for monitoring and overseeing publications intended for young people. The order, published in the Official Journal on 24 February, concerns the book by Dr Ahmad Ibn Moubarak ibn Qadhlan Al Mazru’i, published by Ibn Badis editions. Authorities believe its content poses a danger to minors because of passages encouraging hatred or discrimination.

The ministry highlights several excerpts advocating the submission of young girls and severe restrictions on their freedoms, such as the instruction not to leave the home except when necessary. The text also contains remarks aimed at creating hostility toward « Westerners », considered likely to harm the moral and mental development of children and adolescents.

As a result, it is now formally forbidden to offer, give or sell this book to minors anywhere in France. The order also prohibits displaying it where it can be seen by the public in shops and kiosks, as well as any form of advertising promotion through posters, the press or audiovisual broadcasts. Any violation of these measures will be punished in accordance with the law of 16 July 1949 concerning publications intended for young people.
