France and Morocco Sign Agreement to Boost Legal and Judicial Cooperation

Morocco and France have decided to strengthen their cooperation in the legal and judicial fields. The two countries signed a joint declaration to this effect on Monday in Rabat, part of which is dedicated to Moroccans residing abroad (MREs).
The joint declaration was signed between the French Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, and his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Ouahbi. It was an opportunity for the two parties to take stock of cooperation in the legal and judicial fields and explore prospects. This declaration follows the signing of the action plan on May 31, 2024, which identified priority areas including the fight against terrorism and organized crime, reports Médias24.
With this new partnership, Paris and Rabat reaffirm their common will to intensify their efforts in legal and judicial matters. The two parties stressed the importance of continuous training for professionals in the sector as well as the exchange of experiences in areas related to justice. Darmanin and Ouahbi welcomed "the quality of bilateral relations", highlighting the ties of solidarity and trust that unite the two countries, supported by a "judicial Francophonie".
This meeting allowed the two parties to harmonize their views on certain pending issues, Ouahbi said. It paves the way for the review of certain agreements, including the one regulating the role of lawyers in France and Morocco, added the Moroccan Minister of Justice, specifying that he had also examined with his French counterpart "the means to facilitate the daily life of Moroccans residing in France, particularly in terms of personal status and family rights".
For his part, Gérald Darmanin sees this joint declaration as a strong sign of strengthened cooperation, stressing the close collaboration between Moroccan and French magistrates in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking. The French minister reiterated his commitment to working to improve the working conditions of officials of the two ministries, in terms of digitization and modernization of the judicial system. The two parties also undertook to work to simplify the lives of Moroccan nationals in France and French nationals in Morocco.
