Former Tunisian President Backs Morocco in Western Sahara Dispute, Criticizes Algeria

Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki reacted to the resurgence of tensions between Morocco and the Polisario. He expresses his support for the kingdom and charges "the enemies of Maghreb unity" that are Algeria and other powers.
"You know how Maghrebi I am, I who have tried and am trying to move forward with this project [the Greater Maghreb, editor’s note]. But it is clear that powers are determined to abort this project," said the former head of state in an interview with Al Quds al-Arabi.
"Each time we have been able to move forward and find a logical solution to the Sahrawi problem within the framework of autonomy within Morocco and the Union of a great Maghreb, there have always been powers to perpetrate terrorist strikes and to make everything fail," he added.
For the former Tunisian president, it is time to put an end to this situation. "We can no longer sacrifice the future of 100 million Maghrebis for 200,000 Sahrawis who can live with dignity in a Maghreb union and in autonomy within the Moroccan State," hammered the former head of state. For him, the only viable solution is the one put forward by Morocco aimed at broad autonomy in the Moroccan Sahara.
