Former Terrorism Convict Faces New Charges for Real Estate Fraud in Morocco

After serving his sentence in a terrorism case, a former inmate returns to prison in Rabat for another offense. He is now accused of using forged state seals in a real estate transaction.
This former terrorist must again answer for his actions before the courts, reports Assabah. Upon his release from prison, the accused tried to seize a property belonging to his brother, who is in detention in Belgium. To dispossess him of this property located in El Jadida, the accused established a false power of sale on which he also imitated the seals of the Moroccan consulate in Belgium as well as the signature of the Belgian Consul (A.L).
The forger would have been able to carry out his crime after deceiving the vigilance of the department responsible for legalizing documents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat. The latter inadvertently validated this power of attorney. A lawyer involved in the sale procedure of the said property discovered the trick by demanding the authentication of the seals and the signature of the Moroccan consul. His fear was finally confirmed.
According to the same daily, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the judge, stating that the seals of the consulate, as well as the signature and the order number appearing on the power of sale, were forgeries.
Questioned, the investigating judge at the 3rd chamber of the Rabat Court of Appeal sent him back last week to the El Arjat 2 prison in Salé, after the usual custody. It was renewed for 72 hours for the needs of the investigation. In this case of forgery and use of forgery, a notary, domiciled in El Jadida where the property object of the false power of attorney is located, is also the subject of legal proceedings.
