Former Spanish Deputy PM Slams Government’s Sahara Policy Shift as "Immoral" and "Ineffective"

The former Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, Pablo Iglesias, described as "immoral" and "ineffective" the decision of the government of Pedro Sanchez to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara.
"It is a decision that is not only immoral, but also extremely ineffective in terms of Spain’s geopolitical interests. That there is not a single political force in Congress that approves of this, I think that is quite significant," Iglesias said on La 2 and Radio 4, adding that President Pedro Sanchez and the PSOE have not respected Spain’s international commitments regarding the Sahara.

The Spanish Socialist Party believes that the agreement with Morocco is positive, as it ends the migration crisis. But "reality shows that Morocco has advanced positions and that it will not give up its claims on Ceuta and Melilla," Iglesias argues.
Pedro Sanchez made a visit to Morocco on Thursday, marking the beginning of the new stage in the bilateral relationship between the two countries, based on "mutual respect".
