Former Spanish PM González Backs Morocco’s Sahara Autonomy Plan as ’Best Solution’

The former Spanish Prime Minister, Felipe González, supported his country’s new position on the Sahara, considering the Moroccan autonomy initiative as "the best solution" to definitively settle the regional dispute.
Speaking during an awards ceremony of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, held on Thursday in New York, González reiterated about the Moroccan autonomy plan that "it is the most serious and realistic solution that has been presented in more than forty years".
Prior to this recent statement, González had supported, in statements relayed by the media, that the Moroccan autonomy initiative, supported by Madrid, is "the only proposal with a viable outcome".
For the record, the Spanish government led by Pedro Sánchez has recently recognized that "the Moroccan autonomy initiative is the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving the dispute" on the Sahara.
