Former Spain Women’s Coach Jorge Vilda Takes Helm of Morocco National Team

Swept away by the Rubiales affair, Jorge Vilda, former coach of the Spanish women’s national football team who won the World Cup in August, is the new coach of the Atlas Lionesses. How was the Madrid coach recruited by the Moroccan Federation?
Vilda was recruited after Lluís Cortés declined the offer from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and was recommended by the Spanish Federation (RFEF), reports Relevo, specifying that Cortés was Morocco’s first option. The former Barça coach had even met with the Moroccan Federation in Barcelona and had gone to Morocco last week with his agent to visit the Moroccan facilities. Cortes believes in Jenni Hermoso’s version, whom he coached at Barça, and felt that working with Vilda under these conditions would be against his values. For its part, the Moroccan Federation said that Vilda was recommended by the RFEF and that his choice was non-negotiable. It should be recalled that the Spanish and Moroccan federations have collaborated hand in hand in the context of the joint candidacy for the 2
