Former PJD Member Alleges Death Threats from Moroccan Islamist Party Leaders

A few weeks ago, Yousra Mimouni made headlines in the Moroccan press by announcing her resignation from the Party of Justice and Development (PJD). Among the reasons for this disengagement, the activist explains that it is difficult for her to remain in an institution that "refuses debate, ignores political criticism and is moving towards personification".

She is once again in the spotlight with rather explosive revelations. According to her, "freedom of expression and opinion would be just an empty word within the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) and its ideological and theological arm, the Movement of Unity and Reform, (MUR)". She explains that some party leaders do not forgive her for her resignation, reports the daily AlAkhbar.

The newspaper specifies that the matter is quite serious, especially since the death threats were only made by the accused when the former activist expressed her opinions and expressed the wish to go to Israel. She has actually filed two complaints with the competent prosecutor’s office in Rabat, in order to open an investigation. The first complaint was filed so that the person behind these attacks against her could be unmasked. "These threats affect my personal, professional and political life, since I decided to leave the Party of Justice and Development and support King Mohammed VI’s decision to resume relations with Israel".

The second complaint was filed against four members of the PJD, including a leader of the MUR. "These officials are conducting smear campaigns against me, making false allegations that
