Former PJD Lawmaker Quits Party, Citing Authoritarianism and Mismanagement

The former MP, [Itimad Zahidi], presented her resignation from the Justice and Development Party (PJD), following her suspension by the local section of Témara. She denounces the authoritarianism and poor management prevailing within the party.

In her resignation letter submitted on Monday, Itimad Zahidi regrets that after "nearly 20 years of activism within a party in whose values she believed by working to raise its flag", the Témara section took the decision to suspend her in "flagrant violation of the party’s internal regulations", reports Hespress.

Normally, only the arbitration commission is authorized to dismiss a party member and not "an official driven by a certain faction", protested Ms. Zahidi, adding moreover that the signatory of her suspension did not mention the date of the meeting of the local PJD secretariat in Témara during which this decision was taken.

The party had demanded explanations from her following her statements deemed "abusive", but which in reality exposed the organizational problems of the party and its political line, namely that her remarks were part of the study of "the current situation of the party, which has become a public debate, as well as behind the scenes of the party and within closed groups where the remarks go as far as insults, slander and accusations of treason without any measures being taken against their authors", reports the same source, quoting the PJD elected official.

Ms. Zahidi also declared that she had not missed the meetings of the Témara municipal council office for a year and stressed that she was present at those of October 6, September 23 and 16, 2020, as well as those held remotely during the lockdown. She also claimed to have paid her voluntary contribution to the party, as usual, related to her allowances as vice-president of the municipality.
