Former Moroccan Soccer Star Faces Trial for Cocaine Trafficking and Money Laundering

The former Moroccan international, Rachid Bouaouzan, will appear in court in Rotterdam this week for his alleged involvement in international cocaine trafficking and money laundering cases.
The footballer of Moroccan origin is suspected of having laundered more than 160,000 euros during his time in Barcelona. He would also be involved in the importation of about 2.1 tons of raw cocaine.
The former Sparta Rotterdam player, now 37 years old, had been arrested last December, before being prosecuted in pre-trial detention. He will be brought before the Rotterdam court this week.
Before hanging up his boots, Rachid Bouaouzan, originally from the Moroccan Rif, had worn the jerseys of several major European clubs between 2003 and 2013, including the English Premier League club Wigan, and the Swedish club Helsingborg.
