Former Moroccan Regional President Under Investigation for Urban Development Corruption

A former regional president would be involved in a corruption case related to the implementation of urban upgrading programs in several cities.
As part of an investigation opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, the agents of the national brigade of the judicial police (BNPJ) are combing through the archives of the urban upgrading programs of cities and urban centers, some of which would have been carried out in violation of the laws in force relating to "integrity, transparency and good governance," reports the daily Assabah.
"A former president of a Region would be in the hot seat for his involvement in the dysfunctions that marred the implementation of the programs in question in the region he presided over," indicates the same source, without revealing the identity of the official who would have illegally enriched himself by having contracts awarded to consulting firms and companies thanks to the intervention "of intermediaries at the level of the general directorate of local authorities".
These contracts worth several billion dirhams were concluded as part of the urban upgrading of cities and concerned various infrastructures, including "roads, sanitation, public lighting, green spaces, recreation and entertainment parks and other community facilities".
