Former Moroccan Official and 8 Others Detained for Forgery in Traffic Accident Cover-Up

A former commune president, his son as well as three gendarmes and four other individuals (two civil servants and two farmers) were brought before the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat on Tuesday, who ordered their detention. They are being prosecuted for "forgery and use of forgeries".
The nine defendants are accused of "forgery and use of forgeries" for having falsified official documents. They were presented to the King’s Attorney following a traffic accident caused by a vehicle belonging to the urban commune of Rommani (province of Khémisset), reports Al Akhbar, specifying that the son of the former president of the commune was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
But according to the reports, the former president of the commune was the driver of the vehicle. "Just after the accident caused by his son, the president of the commune went to the brigade of the royal gendarmerie of Rommani, to report this accident which caused controversy in the region, stating that he was the driver at the time of the accident," explained certain sources to the daily.
Three gendarmes on duty that day recorded the statements of the commune president in reports, with false testimonies from four people, two farmers and two civil servants, who accompanied the elected member of the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) to support his version of the facts.
After a thorough investigation conducted by the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat, it was revealed that these testimonies were false, which led the competent prosecutor’s office to prosecute the president of this rural commune and the three gendarmes in detention, and the other defendants on provisional release.
