Former Moroccan Minister Remains Jailed on Corruption Charges

The criminal chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal has ruled: Mohamed Moubdii, former minister and former mayor of the city of Fqih Bensalah, remains behind bars. Despite the efforts of his lawyer, the court decided to keep him in detention.
Accused of several serious offenses including embezzlement of public funds, corruption, abuse of power and forgery of documents, the former minister finds himself at the heart of a judicial whirlwind that has also sent several other officials and entrepreneurs to prison.
Former Minister of the Civil Service under the government of Abdelilah Benkirane, Mohamed Moubdii also distinguished himself as president of the Justice and Legislation Committee in the House of Representatives.
Today, Moubdii is facing accusations of financial corruption during his term as mayor of the commune of Fqih Bensalah.
